Legacy Day 2009 Recap

An estimated 1100 guests attended the 5th annual Legacy Day event , Saturday June 13th, hosted by 64 Metals at its Mount Vernon Road manufacturing facility. With a theme of “Celebrating What’s Good—Our Customers, Our Community, Our Values,” the company welcomed attendees from all over the state-- and even Vermont-- to a sunny day of free food, entertainment, factory tours, and door prizes. The highly-anticipated grand prize drawing of a 30x32x10 building kit was awarded to Donna Conley of Croton, Ohio.

Highlighting the event this year was a garden tractor pull organized by the Jersey Pullers, accompanied by an antique truck and equipment show by the Vintage Haulers and a vintage tractor display courtesy of the Land of Legend Antique Tractor Club. Kids begged their parents and grandparents to eat dessert FIRST as they walked past Schloneger’s homemade ice cream stand with its put-putting old John Deere engine and Velvet Ice Cream’s frozen novelty chest. And few could resist the fresh buttered popcorn served from Shawn Brown’s sparkling 1905 popcorn trailer. The main course of the day was provided by Oiler’s Meat Processing of Utica, which served up a full menu of pulled pork sandwiches, chili-topped hotdogs, baked beans, and potato chips. Old-time butter making was on site, as well mini-hitch carriage rides, a petting zoo, and kid’s zone with inflatables and fishing game. Intermingled with 30-minute announcements of new door prize winners, were the toe-tapping harmonious strains of the Back Porch Swing Band and the Stockdale Family Band.

Smiles were the order of the day: And the lesson learned? According to owner Clarence Green, “When things get tough, I’ve learned to give more.”
